Alwin NgHELLO!!

HELLO!!! I’m Alwin Ng (pronounced: All-Win Eng) and Welcome to my Trading Psychology site!!

If you are looking to work towards a better trading mindset, better emotional management, a personal breakthrough or even towards Peak Performance, you are at the right place!

I am a full time Currency Trader, Performance Coach (using NLP and Hypnosis), Educator, Entrepreneur and Author.

I love the financial market and I have a huge passion for Trading Psychology. In fact, I apply the same interest of human behaviour in the financial market.

In case you want to know my story, read more below.

My Story

Imagine this..

What would have happened if you invested all your savings in a full-time trading course and then you spent all your time reading every trading book, website and forum available? You spend 6 and a 1/2 days each week learning… YET, you don’t seem to progress?

Well, I know how that feels because that was how I started.

The Missing Puzzle

I learnt to trade by attending a trading school in South West London. I paid a premium and I pretty much had unlimited access to all their learning materials. In fact, I was so excited about the school that I gave a great testimonial to them.

HOWEVER… half way into my program and doing EVERYTHING I can, I realised that there was a missing puzzle. More importantly, it was a big puzzle as it was not something I can learn on my own easily. Technical analysis was relatively easy to understand and I could master it. Sadly, I realised there was something else.

It didn’t take long before I found out that the missing puzzle was in the area of the mind (a.k.a. trading psychology). Don’t get me wrong, the trading school was fine and I got the technical skills that I needed to become successful.

Unfortunately, the non-technical skills like Trading Psychology, Emotional Management, Peak Performance or Mindset Management (or what ever you might call it) were not provided. In fact, the more I searched, the more I realised that many trading schools only taught the trading skills without teaching the mental skills that were equally (if not, more) important.

To be honest, it’s not surprising as the schools were only managed by traders who already have a solid psychology. Most of them are not trained to provide mental skills.

At that point, I was frustrated, worried and angry. I was at the lowest point in my life. Thankfully, I found a solution and I believe this can be applied to most (or even all) traders.

So Why the Trade Your Edge site?

After my turning point, my belief that the need for trading psychology and support remains.

Many of you reading this now are probably very good traders already and some of you are even better than I am. While some of you are not profitable yet, you deserve much more. That’s because you are looking for your missing puzzle too.

TYE was where I started developing my own trading psychology and I hope some of my lessons can be useful to you. This website started off as a blog (previously www.TradersChapter.com) but, with many positive feedback from friends and family, it became a personal development site for traders through the theme Excellent Trading Psychology.

I truly hope TYE can offer what you are looking for. And if you can’t find it, make sure to email me here.

How I trade?

I am a chartist and I trade using price action and price patterns along with a handful of technical indicators. I’ve learned to trade using Elliot Wave as well but I noticed that the waves are more complex in the Currency market (Hence, I focus on price action a lot more).

I like to keep it simple and I do not trade or read market news as that usually confuses my little brain 🙂

How to Read Price Action?” and “The Secrets of Trading the First Pullback” will give you an idea of how I trade the market using Market Psychology. If you want to further develop those skills, make sure to sign up to Market Apprentice to learn.

The Mind is my biggest asset and maximise it by having a solid trading plan. I wrote down how I created my trading plan in my 30 Days Trading Transformation ebook.

As you can see, everything I’ve done in my trading, I’ve either written it in my blog or have created a copy for your benefit. Make sure to get a copy if you are interested.

Before Trading

I graduated from Imperial College London (University Ranking: Top 4 in the UK and Top 10 in the World) in Mechanical Engineering but followed my passion in finance and business. After graduation, I went on to qualify as a professional accountant (CIMA).

My first job was in the Graduate Program in Rolls-Royce PLC. That was before I worked in Barclays Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland.

My career in a few blue chip firms as well as in the financial sector gave me great exposure to how the industry works. I left the corporate world and started my entrepreneurial career in the mobile phone trading business before I pursued a career as a private market trader. The combined experiences in the finance world and retail business gave me the edge in understanding market sentiment and traders’ behaviour.

My interest in human behaviour started when I was 15 years old. I was in an exchange program in a village in France. As I departed immediately after a public exam, I did not speak any French… and the family whom kindly hosted me did not speak any English. For a boy who came from a suburb in Malaysia (when Malaysia was considered a 3rd world country), two months of non-verbal communication was what triggered my curiosity.

Since then watching how people behave was a normal practice for me.

Why Am I telling You This?

I don’t know if I have an inspiring story to tell but I do hope I can make a difference to some of you in a positive way. As I said, I started with no prior knowledge of trading. So if I can do it, I believe anyone else can do it as well.

Trading (Technical or Fundamental) is only 10-20% of the success factor. The rest is discipline and having the ability to follow the rules. Well, that sounds really simple. However, discipline and having-the-ability-to-follow-the-rules can be narrowed down even further and that goes way beyond what normal traders look for.

In case you’re wondering, I’m referring to trading psychology, trading mindset, trading behaviour, emotional management etc. Call it what ever you want but I think you get the idea.

I don’t think I need to hide with the fact that trading can be very challenging. Sadly, traders only focus on the technical know-how (which is also important) but to a point where they neglect the importance of their trading psychology.

The good news for you is that the fact you are reading this now, you are already ahead of the game. Keep it up and if you need any extra help in some mental skills, do get a copy of my work. Alternatively, do contact me at alwinyp [at] gmail.com.

With that, I wish you nothing but the best!! Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you.
